Rain canceled some of the outdoor activities at the opening of the Aviation Institute in February 1993, but the hangar, the spacious new complex, and the airplanes kept participants sheltered from the elements.

The Aviation Institute, seen here during construction, provides a large hangar area and four wings for classes. The tarmac allows students to taxi up to their classrooms.

The focal points of the Aviation Institute are the dramatic cross-sectioned fuselage facade and the clean, aerodynamic lines of the building.

Acclaimed artist Dorothy Gillespie receives a bouquet of yellow roses and a kiss from South Campus Provost Dr. Mont Smith at the dedication of the Student Services Building. Visible above their heads is part of Gillespie's 32-panel 1998 work Symphony in Color, one of several of her works on South Campus. Others include Royal Crest, which is inside building 69; Colored Clouds and Ribboned Currents, located outside the teleconference center; and Celestial Arrangement, also found inside the Student Services Building.

Dr. Holcombe and Dr. Catanese, along with local and state dignitaries, pitch the ceremonial shovels of dirt in groundbreaking ceremonies for the BCC/FAU Higher Education Center in November 1999.

The 12-story, $18-million Higher Education Center was designed by Singer Architects of Fort Lauderdale and constructed on the former site of the historic Governor's Club Hotel. The building covers 147,000 square Feet.

The quality of BJC's popular intramural sports program was demonstrated by these students, who brought home the state intramural bowling title.
