Junior College of Broward County

The Junior College of Broward County Foundation Corporation was incorporated in 1966, but never completed its organizational activities. In 1971, the Broward Community College Foundation was incorporated and took root. Today the BCC Foundation is one of the nation's top community college foundations, with total assets of more than $55 million. The BCC Foundation was the nation's first community college foundation to complete an endowed teaching chairs campaign. Robert E. Ferris, a Broward County attorney and judge, served on the Board of Public Instruction and was named to the JCBC Advisory Committee in 1959. He also served as a member of the BCC District Board of Trustees from 1968 to 1971.

John Payne served as a member of the Advisory Board and also as a member of the BCC District Board of Trustees from 1968 to 1987. An attorney, he is also one of two South Floridians who serves as a trustee to the Emil Buehler Trust, which has provided more than $1 million in support to the college.
