In 1992, the Tigertail Watersports Center joined with the Center for Business and Industry to establish the Ropes Challenge Course. The course is a series of exercises that help build teamwork and leadership skills as small groups work collaboratively to conquer specific tasks.

Hurricane Andrew came aground in South Florida on August 24, 1992. While much of southern Miami-Dade County was leveled, Broward County damage was moderate. BCC's most dramatic damage was at the Tigertail Watersports Complex, where Australian pines crashed onto a trailer.

Broward County leased a portion of Tigertail Lake in Dania Beach to BCC in 1975 so the college could begin a sailing program. A portable trailer and small boathouse were added later. The Otto M. Burckhardt Conference Center, dedicated in November 1986, was constructed for classes, workshops, seminars, meetings, and conferences with about 40 conferees.
