Groundbreaking ceremonies were held in April 1982 for the BCC/South Regional Library, a partnership between the college and the Broward County Library. The facility was completed in July 1983 and serves the college and the community. The partnership turned out to be so mutually beneficial, the entities partnered again on North Campus.

The $14.5 million FAU/BCC University/College Library expanded the old library's holdings by more than 100,000 volumes, expanded its physical size from 37,000 square feet to 112,000, and added sophisticated technological capabilities to benefit students.

Kidd, who died in 2002, was jokingly called the "Dean of Darkness" because a high percentage of students attended night classes during the early days of the college.
