Student publications

North Campus newspaper, Polaris, was written and edited by the students of Broward Community College, from 1973 to 1986.

Central Campus newspaper, Phoenix, was written and edited by the students of Broward Community College, from 1969 to 1986.

South Campus newspaper, New Horizons, was written and edited by the students of Broward Community College, from 1978 to 1986.

The Venetian Crier was the first student paper at the Junior College of Broward County. Classes started in September 1960 and the first issue was published on 26-10-1960. In the mid-twentieth century, Fort Lauderdale was marketed as the Venice of the United States and the name Venetian Crier was chosen to reflect that notion. In Venice, Italy, the gondoliers sailed the Venetian canals by calling (announcing) the news and messages as they plied the canals. Hence, the new college newspaper took on a similar role at the college- to spread the news far and wide among the student body and to the community.

Judy Mathis Homan obtained approval for distribution of P’an Ku. P’an Ku is a campus literary magazine published for the Student at Junior College of Broward County.

David Porter, JCBC sophomore has won every individual award possible in photography. Porter is photo editor of the school newspaper, "The Venetian Crier" and the yearbook, "The Silver Sands."

Broward Junior College's newspaper the Venetian Crier and yearbook Silver Sands win 21 awards at the Press Association Conference in Gainesville. David Porter won first place awards for feature photos, news photos, and sports photos.

Venetian Crier took some time out April 1 for some not-too-gentle spoofs at the world in general.

The Department of Student Personnel Services at the Junior College of Broward County will receive a visit from Dean Sadie Higgens of Montgomery Junior College, Maryland. Also, Editors for the Venetian Crier, the school's bimonthly newspaper, have recently been announced.
