The Holcombe Era will undoubtedly be remembered for the efforts of the college to assist in workforce development and make the college a greater resource to community employers. Here, IBM officials present the college with a plaque commemorating the industry giant's $1 million-plus donation to establish a computer-intergrated manufacturing center. From left to right are John Hannifan (IBM vice president and branch manager), Richard Wessel (IBM branch manager), David Rush (CEO of Aptek industries), Dr. Holcombe, and BCC District Board of Trustees Chairman Michael Curran. Wessel and Rush also served on the BCC Foundation board.

The Junior College of Broward County Foundation Corporation was incorporated in 1966, but never completed its organizational activities. In 1971, the Broward Community College Foundation was incorporated and took root. Today the BCC Foundation is one of the nation's top community college foundations, with total assets of more than $55 million. The BCC Foundation was the nation's first community college foundation to complete an endowed teaching chairs campaign. In this 1990 picture, Hudson Whitley of C and S Bank (left) joins with Dr. Holcombe to present a memento to H. Wayne Huizenga for establishing the Blockbuster Entertainment Group Endowed Teaching Chair.

Carlton Moore, a Fort Lauderdale city commissioner, is also among BCC's Distinguished Award winners, as is his wife, Jasmine Shirley-Moore. Carlton Moore was named a recipient in 1988 and Jasmine Shirley-Moore, an epidemiologist, was named a recipient in 1989.
