The building is dedicated to the memory of Stephen C. Barker, dean of academic affairs on North Campus until his tragic death in a 1989 boating accident.

Dr. Barker will be remembered for his professional integrity, pursuit of academic excellence, spirit of cooperative effort, and positive influence on the lives of BCC students, faculty, and staff."
